Orchestra Jazz Parthenopea…
Info artista
The Parthenopean Jazz Orchestra was born in the Flegrean heart of creative and volcanic Naples from an idea by Pino Jodice and Giuliana Soscia, bringing together 20 extraordinary musicians from southern Italy. It is one of the very few orchestras to have two directors and perhaps the only one to offer the public both a male and female perspective on composition, arrangement, and conducting. While it may find a reference in Stan Kenton's powerful orchestra, it adds the use of less usual instruments, from Giuliana Soscia's accordion to the ethnic drums and singing of percussionist Giovanni Imparato, to the bass tuba, thus expanding the timbral range and offering sounds capable of harmoniously combining tradition and innovation through paths of experimentation and contamination.
The album MEGARIDE is an excerpt from the wonderful concert held with the extraordinary participation of Paolo Fresu at the Solfatara volcano in Pozzuoli on the occasion of the Pozzuoli Jazz Festival.
The Megaride project, inspired by the islet where ancient Parthenope was born, aims to express Naples as a cultural center of the Mediterranean, a crossroads today as in the past of wonderful and artistically unsurpassable encounters, where jazz represents an important and consolidated reality. A desire to valorize local musicians and to revive the Mediterranean through music, capable of fostering cultural exchange and breaking down, today more than ever, any wall.
