The new single by Papik and Kelly Joyce is the first glimpse of this fresh and intriguing collaboration, which aims to bring together the musical experiences and inspirations of France and Italy in the 1950s and ’60s. From Rome, lounge and nu-jazz icon Papik – an architect of groove followed around the world for his themed reinterpretations (with successful productions like Cocktail Martino, Cocktail Mina, or the recent Cocktail Sanremo) – takes on the challenge, spurred by Parisian singer Kelly Joyce (best known for her international hit Vivre la vie), to deconstruct and reconstruct vintage French music.
Kelly Joyce and Papik thus set the two parallel worlds of a particularly rich artistic and musical era against each other. The spirit of the “Yé-Yé” movement is stitched back together in Rome through the influences of “La Dolce Vita.” Rome versus Paris, Rimini versus Saint-Tropez. The two artists strike an aesthetic pact, contrasting sophistication with boldness, for an album that is both popular and refined – a journey that moves through Parisian boulevards and Roman terraces, the velvet of the clubs and the sand of the Romagna beaches, without the need for translation.
