"Important Life" takes its name from the track that closes the album and is produced by Italian double bassist and composer (now based in London), Marco Marzola, to celebrate his collaboration with American trombonist Steve Turre. Turre, who has played with some of the greatest international musicians (Ray Charles, Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, Woody Shaw, Dizzy Gillespie, and many others) both in the studio and live, needs no introduction. He is also renowned for playing his seashells and is considered one of the greatest active trombonists today. The album consists of nine tracks (58 minutes of music) and features compositions by Marzola (Prince and the title track, Important Life) and Turre (Fire and Ice and Blackfoot), as well as tributes to Gershwin (Love Is Here to Stay), J. J. Johnson (Enigma), and Mitchell (Fungi Mama). There is also a nod to Italian song with a splendid interpretation (and an emotive solo) of Munasterio 'e Santa Chiara. Alongside Marzola and Turre, the album features pianist Nico Menci, who is also the composer of the second track, and drummer Dion Parson. The album was mixed and mastered by Marc Urselli at East Side Sound Studio in New York.
